Blind

_The Blind Experience Exhibition Hall

Normal people see the world and life with their eyes, but blind people understand the world with their hands and feel life with their hearts. When there is no light in our world, we must rely on other organs to obtain information and communication. The "dot" of Braille is a kind of text for the blind, and it is the way for the blind to touch the society. There are tens of millions of blind people in China, and an average of 1in 100 people is blind. An average of 1 person is added every minute, and there are tens of millions of low vision people. They live by our side, and the difficulties they face in life are beyond our comprehension. Braille is the language they use to communicate with the world. Hope to design the exhibition hall for the blind in the relevant form of Braille, a special text, which arouse people's understanding and attention to the visually impaired through the design based on the senses other than vision.

Site & Inspiration

The inspiration of this project comes from the Braille characters I saw on the elevator. These raised symbols aroused my attention to the visually impaired. I began to think about how the blind communicate with the world in the dark. After a preliminary inquiry of some information, I found that China is the country with the most blind people in the world, and Shanghai has held the first blind tactile art exhibition, and sculptor Li Xiuqin has also held a sculpture art exhibition called "Braille connecting art and society" in Baoshan International Folk Art Museum, so I chose Baoshan City, Shanghai as the venue, hoping to arouse the eye-to-eye again the attention of the disabled group.

Greenhouse

The greenhouse is designed mainly for the sense of smell. The fragrance of the plants will make the blind feel the breath of nature and feel relaxed and happy. In terms of the selection of plant configuration, I want to choose some plants with interactive behaviors. For example, some plants will have some "cute" behaviors, such as the mouth of snapdragons will close, and the mimosa will be shy. And for the paving of the ground, I want to combine the sense of touch and hearing under the feet, and lay dry fallen leaves in autumn. When people step on them, they will make a rustling sound, which can also have a relaxing effect.

Listening

Listening

According to the characteristics that the hearing of the blind is relatively developed, the way for the blind to watch a movie is to rely on people's "Narration" to transmit the picture information in the movie to the blind. Let the blind realize their desire to "enjoy" movies with their ears. In the process of "listening to movies", they can deepen their understanding of the world and understand the relationship between life, sound and vision. This space is to use the sense of hearing to let people experience the way that blind people watch movies.

Reading

Hide

In the design, by simulating the living environment of some blind people, we can let people experience the life experience of blind people, and reflect some problems of blind people in life. For example, the blind roads on the roadside of some urban blocks are often blocked by bicycles and car parking, or some signs that people don't consciously place, etc., which have a great impact on the travel of blind people By simulating these environments, I hope to make people realize that some details of life may have a bad impact on the lives of the visually impaired. In the dark and unknown environment, let the people passively perceive the space from the perspective of the blind. In addition, I hope to break some conventional static mode in the design, give full play to the sense of touch, set some walls as "Braille wall", use the wall instead of paper, the text on the paper becomes Braille composed of Braille dots, and combine the familiar reading way and touch of the blind into the building. In addition, by setting earphones and some small interpretation and speech communication spaces in the space, we can simulate the blind people's life style of watching TV, movies and socializing, so that more normal people can enter the blind people's life and learn more about them.
